80% do not know how to track a ‘lost pension’

Track a lost pension. On average, per UK adult, it is believed that roughly £13,300 is sitting in three ‘lost’ pensions.  Also almost 80% do not know how to begin tracking down a lost pension.

Furthermore, the Pensions Policy Institute estimates there were as many as 2.8 million lost pension pots. Ultimately, worth an unclaimed £26.6 billion.

According to recent data by Moneyfarm, 29% actually have no idea how many pension pots they have. Besides, 18% were unconcerned because they believed they had “plenty of time” to track their pots down in later life.

If you are one of these people who believe they have lost track of their pensions, you need to learn how to find them.  Notably, maximising your pensions for retirement is a key part of your financial planning. Combining your old pension pots could help you streamline your retirement and keep your savings on track.  But this is something you need to do regularly, not just as you approach retirement age.

In particular, only 15% of people inform their pension provider when they changed addresses.  Whereas 74% notified their bank, 62% their Doctors, 51% their local authority and 50% their energy supplier.
